STATEMENT:

In User Contributions, the comforting qualities of quilts contradict the isolation of the figures within generic, digitally-derived spaces. These quilts highlight seemingly isolated individual’s connections with each other and speak to our collective experience of aloneness and shared need for comfort. Within this digital landscape, individual figures are the only bright spots—literally metallic figures—that challenge the dividing spaces and call for connection.

Chloe Wilwerding is a Massachusetts-based interdisciplinary artist. Her childhood immersion in Catholicism in Nebraska awakened her to the simultaneous inspiration and manipulative power of symbols and rituals. Drawing from this introduction to spiritual inquiry, Chloe uses her art to continue to explore the multitude of ways that people have posed and processed questions about who we are and how we should live with each other and in the world. Chloe earned her BA from Middlebury College and her MFA in Printmaking from Rhode Island School of Design. You can learn more about her work on her website and Instagram.
